Leadership-In-Training Program

Heartland Center Summer Camps

Built on the principle of servant leadership, the Leadership-In-Training (L.I.T.) program will provide 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students with the opportunity to counsel youth at summer camp while learning way to become a better leader. L.I.T.'s will have hands-on time assisting in counseling and leading activities for campers. A benefit of the L.I.T. program is the daily L.I.T. meetings each evening. The L.I.T. Director will serve as the mentor for the L.I.T.'s and will spend time each evening teaching important skills for a leader like: leadership styles, how to lead an activity, group dynamics, communication skills, problem solving skills, and discussions on important issues. This time will also be used for debriefing issues arising from experiences during the day. L.I.T.'s will also receive an intensive Bible study solely for the group of L.I.T.'s. The Bible study will be planned for the group and directed  towards issues that are important to his or her faith. The purpose of the L.I.T. program is to prepare leaders with the skills, knowledge, and abilities to become a successful leader at Heartland and beyond.

Application Process

The Heartland Center's L.I.T. program is a  selective training program that requires an application and interview. The L.I.T. program is not a paid position but has no fee for participation. Interested applicants should submit an application and be available for a in-person or phone interview. Participants will be placed in the program as determined by the Heartland Center staff.

Training

A pre-summer training will be held on May 10-11 at the Heartland Center. This training will be an orientation to the program for preparation for the summer. It is important for all participants to be present at this Training to form a team with the other participants and to fully learn what this position will require.
